Sikhism

Sikhism is a religion originated in Punjab, region in Indian subcontinent, in the 15th century. The word Sikh is based on a sanskrit root ‘śiṣya’, which means a learner or a disciple. It is one of the youngest major world religions, with a really rich past. It is not only a religion but art of living. It is the fifth largest organised world religion, with around 30 million followers worldwide.
It is monotheistic based on the equality of both men and women of every race and religion. The faith philosophy is based on the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji as the first guru and the ten successive sikh gurus, with the last one being unfolded, a sacred scripture Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Sikhs consider the latter as the last living guru.
The core belief of Sikhism is faith in Waheguru (wondrous teacher). Sikhs believe in internal religious state of an individual. It signifies the importance of doing good things in life. The symbol of Sikhism is the Khanda, which represents spiritual authority and political power, bound with the oneness of God.

“Waheguru”

Wahe means waah (amazing)
Guru means someone who guides us from darkness towards the light. We greet everyone with either “Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh” (The Khalsa belongs to God, Victory belongs to God) or “Sat Sri Akal” (Immortal God is Truth). It is said that in Sikhism there is only one God – Akal Purakh – who is not in a physical state, gender, and is infinite. You’ll get to know more in our other articles, keep following and sharing.
